T.S. Eliot
I did not understand any of the poems that I read of Eliot's. I did enjoy the rhythm and sound of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufock (p. 372-376). Lines 37-40 stick in my mind "And indeed there will be time/ To wonder, Do I dare? and, 'Do I dare?'/ Time to turn back and descend the stair,/ With a bald spot in the middle of my hair" (p. 373). I can understand Eliot's idea that "like music, poetry doesn't always require rational understanding; a poem can be apprehended emotionally if not comprehended intellectually" (p. 368).
